Last week, Reuters Events kicked off the first of its Sustainable Business events series with Responsible Business USA 2022 in New York. The in-person event saw over 500 delegates from world-leading brands come together to hear from leaders in business and finance on delivering a commercially successful transition that ensures businesses are aligned with a 1.5C pathway.

Over two days, the event welcomed a diverse line-up of more than 80 speakers to address the level of change that is required to meet this target, whilst remaining competitive and sustaining commercial success.

Speakers included: Gary Gensler, Chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission; Hiro Mizuno, Sustainable Finance Envoy of the UN; Brad Lander, Comptroller of New York City; Richard Kidd, Secretary of Defense U.S. Government; Scott Kirby, CEO of United Airlines; and Jean Case, Chair of National Geographic.

The event generated news coverage in national media outlets across the U.S. and drew more than 54 million impressions on social media. Some coverage highlights include:

Gary Gensler, chair of the SEC, told the conference: "Investors representing tens of trillions of dollars support climate-related disclosures because they recognise that climate risk can pose significant financial risk to companies, and investors need reliable information to make informed investment decisions. Companies and investors alike would benefit from clear rules of the road. Our role is to bring consistency and comparability." See the full article here.

Meanwhile in a broadcast for CNBC, reporter Kristina Partsinevelos sat down with a number of executives including Liliana Esposito, CSO of Wendy's and Mindy Lubber, CEO of Ceres, to discuss the difficulties of calculating emissions following the SEC's landmark ruling, unveiled last month.

Reuters flagship Sustainable Business series will also see Responsible Business Europe 2022 take place in London on June 8-9, with the Asia event following closely behind on June 22-23. Click the links for more information.
