Reuters former Editor-in-Chief Stephen J. Adler has been named the recipient of the Gerald Loeb Awards Lifetime Achievement Award. Presented by the G. and R. Loeb Foundation and the UCLA Anderson School of Management, the prestigious Loeb Awards celebrate excellence in business and financial journalism.

Adler spent nearly 10 years at the helm of Reuters, where he led one of the most important transformations of the 172-year-old news organization. Reuters vaulted to the forefront of investigative reporting, data journalism and graphics, all while maintaining the speed and accuracy that has been the lifeblood of Reuters since its founding in 1851. During his tenure, Reuters won eight Pulitzer Prizes for reporting and photography.

Reuters Editor-in-Chief Alessandra Galloni said of Adler in her nomination letter, "In less than a decade, Steve changed Reuters profoundly for the better. He was, in my opinion, one of the most transformational editors in our 172-year-old history and one of the most effective of any his generation's editors at the world's great legacy news organizations."

Adler began his career as a reporter covering local and state government at the Tampa Times and the Tallahassee Democrat. In 1983, he joined The American Lawyer, and in 1988, the Wall Street Journal. Over the course of his 16 years at the Journal, he served in various reporting and editing roles. As investigative editor, Adler managed reporting teams that won three Pulitzer Prizes between 1995 and 1999. As Deputy Managing Editor, he oversaw the award-winning Wall Street Journal Online, created the Wall Street Journal Books imprint, and co-taught the ethics and standards course required of all news employees. In 2005, Adler joined BusinessWeek as editor-in-chief. During his five-year tenure at the magazine, it won more than 100 major journalism awards.

In addition, Reuters was named a finalist for three Loeb Awards in the journalism contest.
